What to do if the UPS battery runs out of power after being unused for a long time?

A common occurrence with UPS batteriesleft unused for extended periods is power loss due to self-discharge, which is generally no cause for excessive concern. They can often be restored through proper charging and activation. However, if the power loss is severe or the battery has aged, replacement may be necessary. The specific handling method should be determined based on the battery type and the extent of power loss.

First, attempt professional charging for activation. For lead-acid battery UPS units from brands like HIGHIDEA, use a matching original charger and employ a constant voltage and constant current charging mode. Start with a low-current pre-charge for 2–4 hours, then switch to standard current charging. Monitor the voltage throughout the process to avoid overcharging. For HIGHIDEA lithium battery UPS units, use a dedicated lithium battery charger. Before charging, check the status of the battery protection board to ensure it is functioning properly, then proceed with normal charging. Typically, charging for 8–12 hours can activate the battery.

Preventive advice: For UPS units that are not used for long periods, perform a supplemental charge every 3 months to avoid deep discharge. Additionally, store them in a dry, well-ventilated environment to minimize self-discharge losses.
