UPS Power Output Types
The primary function of a UPS is to ensure uninterrupted AC power supply. Its internal structure consists of three key components: a rectifier, battery bank, and inverter, which work together to achieve this goal.
UPS Output Types
AC Output UPS – The standard UPS outputs alternating current (AC). Even though the battery stores direct current (DC), the inverter converts it into stable AC power for connected devices.
DC Output UPS – A less common variant, this type directly outputs DC power without inversion. It is mainly used in specialized applications such as telecommunications and certain industrial control systems.
In summary, conventional UPS systems provide AC output by converting stored DC battery power, while DC-output UPS units are niche solutions for specific DC-powered equipment.
